NEWS: Learning how to handle a crisis

Publication date: 7 Jul 2010

It was another successful sell-out year for the Global Outreach: Anaesthesia in Challenging Environments course (31 May - 1 June) which is held each year by Dalhousie University, Canada. The course prepares anaesthetists for global missions and is one of only three offered worldwide.

As usual, Diamedica's Managing Director, Robert Neighbour, was a tutor on the course, along with other leading experts in the field.  Robert ran sessions on vaporisers, monitors and the Glostavent® Anaesthesia System.

Participants on the course learnt how to work with equipment designed for difficult environments and fix it when it breaks, and how to manage without reliable electricity or access to necessary medication. The course also tackled larger questions such as how to handle a crisis and know when to step back.
