NEWS: Anaesthesia for Developing Countries, Kampala

Richard Tully, attended the 26th Anaesthesia for Developing Countries held in Uganda organised and run in partnership between the University of Oxford Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics and Makerere University, Uganda.

 

"The aim of these courses is to link together anaesthetists from Africa, the UK and further afield so we can all benefit", said Richard Tully. "Whilst the emphasis is on education and best practice, there is a great sense of friendship and shared purpose."

Anaesthesia for Developing Countries, Kampala The faculty included Dr Sarah Hodges from Mengo Hospital, Kampala; Dr Haydn Perndt, Tasmania; Mr Mike Yeats, Plymouth; Dr Joe Tindimwebwa, Uganda and Dr Mike Dobson, Nuffield, Oxford. Equipment maintenance featured on the course with Richard Tully and Mike Yeats taking along their tool boxes to fix as much broken equipment as possible and lectures were given in draw-over anaesthesia, oxygen supplies and concentrators and the planning of anaesthetic services.

 

"It is a great privilege to be part of a course such as this," said Richard Tully. "The benefits for all those involved are huge. My particular thanks go to Sarah for putting me up and Mike Dobson for recognising Diamedica's contribution towards anaesthesia in developing countries."
